In Tough Times, Ride On

And the painted ponies go up and down…” ~Joni Mitchell

Recently I was interviewed for a piece on about keeping a business running while facing a serious illness. Me, as the interviewee? Now that’s a horse of a different color! You can see the interview here.

That interview reminded me of how we all have to find our own way to get through tough times. For me, I always think of Joni Mitchell’s song “The Circle Game.” The chorus goes like this:

“And the seasons they go ’round and ’round,

And the painted ponies go up and down.

We’re captive on the carousel of time.

We can’t return, we can only look

 from where we came,

And go round and round and round

In the circle game.

Whenever the going gets rough, I remember that if I just keep riding ahead, things always get better.

And they always do.
